By Angie Its been a little quiet around here lately. Back in early January, I had to take sudden leave from the clinic, and I haven't been able to write or do anything much related to the clinic for the past 9 weeks, and I have missed it. I wasn't able to explain to my patients at the time the reason for my mysterious disappearance, but now I feel its time to share, with those of you who are interested, where I have been for the past few months. I feel that there are always great lessons to be learned from all challenges that we face and hope that me speaking up helps give a voice to others who may suffer in silence.

By Angie We have a new practitioner on the Affordable Acupuncture team - the wonderful Emma Quine! I am so happy to have a practitioner of Emma's calibre joining us here at the clinic. Emma, Kata and I all studied together at UTS many years ago, and Emma has always been passionate, enthusiastic and dedicated to learning and mastering TCM. Since graduation she has had a wealth of experiences working with very well respected practitioners and runs her own successful practice at Leichhardt. She is joining us at Affordable Acupuncture for one day a week as her gift to the community. Emma has a special interest in women's fertility and pregnancy support but is also an extremely well rounded practitioner. I feel completely confident and happy entrusting your care with Emma, and know that those of you who were sad about Gen's departure will be pleased with the continuity of care that she can provide. Emma will be available at our clinic on Tuesdays from 11am - 7pm and will look after you exquisitely. By Angie It is with sadness that I tell you Genevieve will no longer be working with us at Affordable Acupuncture. As you may know, she has been on holidays and unfortunately, she will not be returning to the clinic. In order to explain, I will pass over to the lovely lady herself – she has written a message especially for you. Read on for her message, my tribute to her, and an update as to what will be happening in the clinic for the short and long term: By Angie When I was in my final year of University at UTS (2009), we were asked to prepare a Vision Statement - a document to describe what we would like to achieve in our new profession as Chinese Medicine practitioners. I recently came across this document and it really warmed my heart. I love how 'bright eyed and bushy tailed' I was about my future as an acupuncturist. And, I particularly love the fact that after five years of professional practice, I can honestly say that I still embody all the same hopes and ideals. Not only that, but I have made manifest many things that I only dreamed about as a student. I thought I would include that vision statement here with you and make a promise that I will continue to strive towards making this vision a reality. It is my life's work. I hope you enjoy it :-) We are continually blessed to have talented local artists share their artworks with us in a rotating exhibition in the clinic waiting room. Our current artist is Yeoryios from YPhotography. I'm afraid my photos here don't do them any justice, but Yeoryios has lent us several of his beautiful landscape photos to infuse the waiting room with a sense of peace and serenity. We are so incredibly blessed to have an exhibition of works by local artist Alex Snellgrove in the waiting room this month. Since their installation last week, everyone entering the room has been blown away by these wonderful paintings. There is a real sense of calm and space as the theme of the exhibition is plants and flowers, including this painting of the echinacea shown here on the right. Please note the photos included in this post do not do these gorgeous artworks any justice! This series of paintings was created during the last year and was inspired by the cool-climate gardens of the Blue Mountains near Sydney, where Alex has spent a great deal of time. The effects of light and movement on plants, and their freshness, energy and life force, are the elements she finds exciting and inspiring. We are very lucky to welcome Amy Duong to our clinic! Amy already has her own full-time practice at Bankstown, but out of passion and commitment to Chinese Medicine she will be offering affordable treatments to the community via Affordable Acupuncture on Sundays. She is already booked out for her first shift this Sunday, so you might have to get in quick to catch an appointment with her! Here are some words from the lovely Amy to introduce herself to you: "Hello! I would like to introduce myself as the new and lucky addition to the Affordable Acupuncture team. I graduated from UTS in 2012 in the Chinese Medicine degree and in that short time have had lots of opportunities in helping people with their natural healing. Its a happy day today, as we have officially been accepted into ACON's safe place program.
At Affordable Acupuncture, it goes without saying that we warmly welcome people from all walks of life, including sexuality, gender diverse and intersex people. We are so pleased to be able to publicly demonstrate our support for the LGBTI community in this way and to celebrate the wonderful diversity of the world we live in. Angie was one of a panel of acupuncturists around the world that collaborated on a new article on the Acutake website! Acutake is a really great online publication dedicated to improving education and awareness about acupuncture. It has become very popular with its original and interesting approached to the topic. The article is called "Stop Bloating: 11 Tips from Acupuncturists". Sarah Calabro from Acutake asked for contributions on this topic from acupuncturists around the world, and Angie was chosen to be included. It turned out to be a wonderful piece with the combined wisdom of practitioners around the globe. With the silly season approaching, have a read of it here for some excellent tips for how to reduce bloating and indigestion, the TCM way :-) |
